Thoughts About Trump and Annexation

Part Two

By: Barry B. Wright

For the first time since the end of the Second World War, and across the world, pluralism, reason, a progressive and humanitarian agenda, and internationalism – Independent values – are under threat.

Canada rests on four pillars-peace, freedom, respect and cooperation. We have been proud of the fact that difficulties that divided others in this world have united Canada and the United States. Unfortunately, at this time in history, that has been turned on its head.

It must be remembered that friendship cannot be on any other terms than the terms of equality. Aggression in any form against neighbors will not and must not be rewarded. We must bloody the nose of those bullies.

Canada has never followed the road to empire but the more difficult path to peace. Peace through civil conversation that allows solution to include all voices to be heard in a collaborative manner.

Threats of annexation from our southern neighbor are not new to Canada. But neither is anti-Americanism now taking hold across our sovereign nation. Our focus to buy Canadian is at heights I do not remember ever seeing during my lifetime. Personally, I am hurt and angry at a Country I thought was my friend.

To watch what is happening to institutions in the United States instills a sense of fear of what might be awaiting us should we falter in our choice of leadership. The possibility of an oligarchy, dictatorship and a destabilized democracy does not bode well for anyone in this hemisphere.

Not all Americans have horns, but my fear is that the present American who sits at the helm within their government does. His actions have severely marred a lucrative and harmonious relationship, something at one time—in the most recent past—his government would have greatly deplored.

Canadians from coast-to coast–to coast are coming together to fight this unexpected foe. Canada will remain Canada!! At least ninety percent of Canadians are committed to keeping it so!!

Tough times may lie ahead but we have the mettle to survive it and win in the upcoming struggle.

And I can assure you, we shall win!!

“We Stand on Guard for Thee”

Part One

By: Barry B. Wright

I think at this moment in history it is important to review the words of our National Anthem:

O Canada!

Our home and native land!

True patriot love in all of us command.

With glowing hearts we see thee rise,

The True North strong and free!

From far and wide, O Canada,

We stand on guard for thee.

God keep our land glorious and free!

O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.

O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.

Our neighbours to the south have decided to go to economic war with us. Maybe I should rephrase it by saying that the Trump regime has decided to go to ‘war’ with us. Tough times lie ahead. It is important at this juncture that Canadians coast-to-coast-to-coast join hands in solidarity. Canada has always punched well above its weight on the international stage and on the battlefield. This will never change. Presently, I believe, our sovereignty is being threatened. No aspersions are being cast upon any one person or political entity. It is a fact no matter who would have been in power whether Federally, Provincially, or Municipally. Canada will be in the fight of their life. We have no alternative. We must win to protect our sovereignty and the very fabric that make us say proudly that, “we are Canadians.” Now it is time to use your mobiles in a very different way to identify products that are Canadian. Our household has already begun doing this. This means that our weekly food shopping list components will change dramatically over the coming weeks. We shall make every effort to buy only Canadian!!

My aim is not to attack American firms that employ Canadians and sell Canadian products. Only products produced in the United States and sold in Canada and products earmarked for tariffs by Canada should be our targets.

I believe that no province or territory should have any unfair advantage over any other province or territory because of some arrangement made with the United States. Canadians must work in unison for each other on a level playing field along the full extent of our border between the United States and Canada to remain strong. And there must be no exceptions here.

It is with a sad heart that I am writing this about an ally and good neighbour that I have loved and respected during my 80 years of living. But sadly, it appears I must.

I have stayed away from political discourse on all my social media platforms but now that will change. I am angry! How dare Trump attack us!! A sovereign country! To even suggest we become the 51st state.

I AM CANADIAN!! And that means a heck of a lot to me!! We will survive these tough times that lie ahead! CANADA WILL SURVIVE!! Let’s join hands across the country to stand firm.

Our history shows our strength and resilience as a people!  And so shall our future!
